Has the thought of putting down the game pipe crossed your mind recently?

Tell the world why!

I have used WoW to escape the troubles of RL. Instead of finding success in RL activities I focused only on being successful in the game and stopped caring about my life. I became my WoW character and the game world became my world. After realizing why I play so much I can finally stop.

Working HARD and saving your money for a rainy day, or better yet to get someone special a gift.>Paying upwards of $100.00 to buy "Gold" that you will spend in 5 mins on a character that "...account will remain the property of Blizz. Entertainment...) - WOW EULA.

I spent have spent almost half a year playing WOW. In that time I lost so many opportunities I want to cry...though I'm only in high school, I know for certain that quitting WOW is one of the greatest accomplishments I can boast to myself. I almost lost some of my closest friends and family per se.

Let me share with everyone here why I quit; I just came back from a fantastic winter vacation in, it was there that I did two things, first I (partially thanks to a friend) met a wonderful girl - and realized that I CAN go out there and be cool. Secondly, I went down a huge water slide that I have feared for the past 5 years (once again thanks to a bit of encouragement from that friend) - i then realized that the water slide took a whole of 4 seconds and was actually quite fun.

I want to send a message to all WOW players who are trying to quit: Take 2 weeks off, away from any computer (except for the occasional e-mail/facebook check at an internet cafe)... then, hit a club, have some fun, go home, sell/delete your account/characters (and do it fast, before you have time to think about your addiction).

GOOD LUCK

This game is truly addicting because many people who play it like want to be the best and want to be successful in it. This entails getting the epic gear and mounts, enchants, gems, all which need lots of work to level to 80 and lots of Gold. That's it, you're done. No more herb picking, no more mining to level, no more monsters to grind, you've dome amazingly. Even if you have never chosen a profession, you are the master. I think you're the best in wow, so stop playing it. You're done, you have the most epic gear with the best epic gems. You've grinded in all types of lands, leveled so much, but now, You're done wit it. No more struggle, no more pain.

I just quit WoW about three days ago after sitting at work and wonder what the news had to say about WoW addiction and finding this site. I was never really "addicted" to WoW. I had two 70's after about three years, but my RL came first over WoW. My advice to people who are super addicted to WoW and wnat to play all the time is to try a priave server. Once you have played every single class and had all the best gear and instantly levelled to 70 or 80 all for free, it seems pointless to pay for it and waste DAYS trying to get the same fake items/rep/etc.

My advice to any potential WoW players

1. Stop playing WoW. Its costing you too much money, taking you away from your friends (the ones in the real world who don't play WoW) and family and most of all turning you into a hermit that never leaves the house unless completely necessary.

2. Put the money you would have been spending on WoW towards something more constructive. For example a sporting activity (to improve your health), an intellectual hobby (to improve your mental ability at real world activities) or just buy something with it that you know you need more (i have spoken to numerous people who have paid their last money for a three month game card rather than buy something important for their lives, i.e. a decent selection of food for the week)

3.Enjoy your life, free from the addiction of a "game" that is really only designed to make people who aren't you disgustingly rich. Have you ever tried to quit WoW by cancelling your subscription? During the process they ask you to be specific aboutall the reasons why you would want to do such a thing... and then give you lengthy descriptions of why they have tailored the game you are quitting to incorporate your needs! If you are new to this game and don't already know.. there are numerous reports of people quitting their jobs to be able to stay at home and play full time! Most people who play this game knows one of them.. i do (not me in case you were wondering). Believe me, i have spoken to enough people who have suddenly awoken as if from a dream after 2 years of not doing anything but playing this game and that have just realised that they have no idea where the time went or what they were doing it for?.. randomly clicking the same icons in a specific order over and over, hour after hour, month after month.. for what? If you really wanna waste your time.. watch tv.. its free!

(ops continuation) The allure that the game holds is almost irresistible once you get to know it. After a Year and 4 months of being wow free. I recently began thinking about playing some other mmo or wow again maybe. Its this terrible little piece that wow takes from you. It dosent leave you the same. The worst part is that this hole most likley will never be filled. Maybe covered and temporarily forgotten but one can never be the same. This reality of things is the worst thing of all. Have i sold my soul or something? I ask myself. I hope eventually Blizzard will pay for what they have done. I feel that i was so unaware so damn ignorant when i first started playing. I would stop myself if i only knew :(

My second post on this site. I have been wow free for a year and 4 months and counting :). I quit the summer before burning crusade but relapsed when my cousin and friends started telling me about it and arena and our dreams of becoming the best PvP team (we always loved Pvp). It seems that Blizzard has thought of everything possible. What helped me quit was my loathing for raiding and the lack of reasonable incentives in PvP. Arena unfortunately broke my strong will. I played till summer

I was an officer in a raiding guild through BC. I quit cold turkey because I was missing out on my family and life. Regardless of how screwed up I was, always tired, always stressed, putting a game ahead of friends and family, I am still having a really hard time. Three months, and I still think of wow every day and I seem to be fighting the urge to play all the time. :(
